Photoshop: what does this mean?

When i try to open photoshop, sometimes, an error message comes up saying ''cannot load default brushes/patterns/styles because the scratch disks are full''

Then it says ''Cannot initialize photoshop because the scratch disks are full.''

Then it closes the program. It's only done this twice. Sometimes it works, other times it says that.

What is a scratch disk, and how can i fix this problem?

It means there isn't enough space for temporary files on your hard drive to run the program, or just the brushes. It's usually when it's set to ''start-up.''

You can change the scratch disk if you go into edit -%26gt; preferences -%26gt; plug ins and scratch disks -%26gt; and change ''first'' from ''start-up'' to C:\ or another one of your hard drives.

Hi Peach,

Photoshop uses your computer's disk/s as temporary storage of data. When you render image for export, save the file, or simply open up photoshop it acquires a portion of your system disk to place photoshop-related files. Because photoshop needs this space, your disk (e.g. drive c:) must have sufficient available space, otherwise you won't be able to properly use photoshop.
