Photoshop messes up color?

I've had this problem with both Photoshop CS2 and CS3 for a while now. When I load a photo on Photoshop, the color is faded. For example: a light shade of pink loaded in photoshop would be barely noticeable.

Also, when I finish a picture on Photoshop and reload the picture, it restores its color and its just darker than I wanted it so its frustrating. Does anyone know why it does this, and how I can fix it?
